Five GitHub repos that make Claude 10x (no coding)
The repos developers keep starring, translated into what they do for you, plus how to add one in 30 seconds.
You need: Claude (Pro or above for Skills) or Claude Code. The first link works in the Claude app.
A GitHub repo is just a public folder of files. Many of the best ones right now are "skills": instruction files that teach Claude a new job. You don't need to code to use them.
The five repos
- anthropics/skills
Anthropic's own library of ready-made skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files, brand guidelines, and more. Start here.
- obra/superpowers
Makes Claude plan before it acts: brainstorm, write a plan, then do it step by step. Fewer half-finished answers.
- thedotmack/claude-mem
Gives Claude Code a memory of past sessions, so you stop re-explaining what you did yesterday.
- pbakaus/impeccable
A design vocabulary for AI builders. Words like "polish" and "bolder" that make AI-built pages look less like AI.
- mattpocock/skills
A big, well-kept collection of skills to copy from. Good for seeing how a skill file is written.
Add a skill to the Claude app in 30 seconds
- 1In Claude, open Settings, then Capabilities, and turn on Skills.
- 2On the repo's GitHub page press Code, then Download ZIP, and unzip it. Find the skill's folder (for example skills/docx in anthropics/skills): it has a SKILL.md file inside.
- 3Zip just that one folder (right-click, Compress). Back in Claude, Settings, Capabilities, Skills: press Upload skill and choose that ZIP.
- 4Ask Claude for the job the skill covers ("make this into a Word document"). It loads the skill by itself.
Ashar's tip: Only add skills from repos with many stars and a real owner. A skill is instructions Claude follows, so read the SKILL.md file before you upload it.
